Read our top tips on setting up an open garden event!
1. Set a date
Plan your event well in advance to give you time to present your garden at its best. Ensure your event doesn't clash with any national or local events like football matches or other sporting events.
2. Car parking
Check with your neighbours or local authorities if you think there will be more cars than parking spaces.
3. Volunteers
Find some volunteers to help with parking, collecting entrance fees and decorating, and don't forget to remind them what a great cause they're supporting!
4. Sponsorship
Ask a local garden centre to sponsor your event by donating plants, gardening equipment and expert advice.
5. Refreshments
Set up a committee of friends, family or local community groups to organise the refreshments.
6. Promote your event
Advertise in your local community newsletter and press, or on your local
radio stations. Remember, social media can make all the difference -
set up an event, share it with all your friends and encourage them to do
the same!
7. Boost income
You can raise even more money by selling plants, cakes, tea and coffee and bric-a-brac. Why not set up a kids play area with colouring competitions and a bouncy castle?
